Build and manage your product taxonomy via Settings > Taxonomy Manager.

Note: This article applies to both our Stitch X and Stitch Classic Versions.

Taxonomy Basics

A product taxonomy is a classification scheme for your inventory. By categorizing your products in Stitch, you can drive deeper sales analysis, forecast future sales, and streamline search.

Your taxonomy in Stitch may differ from product categorization on your sales channel. Whereas products on your channel may live in multiple categories (ex: a product category, a sale/frontpage category, etc.), a product in Stitch lives in only one category.

How you categorize your products will be unique to your business.

Add Category

From the Taxonomy Manager page (Settings > Taxonomy Manager), click Add Category:

Each category has three fields:
Parent The parent category; for top-level categories, leave blank
Name A self-explanatory name
Identifier A self-explanatory abbreviation

To quickly add a subcategory, click the ellipsis (…) for the parent category and select Add Branch.

Note: Stitch supports up to eight taxonomy levels.

Edit/Move Category

To edit or move a category, click the ellipsis (…) and select Edit:

Note: You can move a category to any category that doesn't directly contain products. A category can have subcategories or products, but not both.
